Translation: these cowards don't want to stick around and get what's coming to them

"What the instigators of this falsehood seek is not safety, but impunity from transformation. They flee not from persecution, but from justice, equality and accountability for historic privilege.”

Hmm. Accountability. Whatever might that mean?

Looks like the African National Congress isn't going to be happy until they turn South Africa into Zimbabwe. That might not be as easy as they think: the white population in South Africa is larger, in absolute numbers, than was the case in Rhodesia, and they appear to be well-armed. Still, they are hugely outnumbered, and the one-party state that South Africa has become gives every indication of being out for blood (it doesn't help that the president, Cyril Ramaphosa, has been seen on more than one occasion leading thousands of his supporters in that catchy tune, "Kill the Boer").

I'm glad that President Trump is letting these people settle here. Elsewhere, the decision of the Episcopal Church to turn its back on these particular refugees is nauseating but not at all surprising. I am reminded of a Chesterton quote: "Charles II is often quoted as saying that Presbyterianism is no religion for a gentleman; it is less often quoted that he also said Anglicanism was no religion for a Christian."

Update

The Babylon Bee puts it very succinctly:

South Africa Denounces White Refugees For Leaving Before They Had A Chance To Take All Their Stuff And Kill Them

  1. If it could be done, I think the best solution is for all the white people to leave, and let the black people establish their utopia.
Which would probably take less than ten years. Maybe less than five.

  2. It’s so discouraging to see so many places in the world sink back into barbarity. The Afrikaners are right to abandon South Africa, even though they were the people who made it one of the very few bright spots on the continent.

  3. it might go the way of Zimbabwe, from Breadbasket to starvation; same as communist Russia, same as most places that try the land confiscation/redistribution shuffle.
