Don't play with fire, folks

Gregory at The mind is an unexplored country has a link to one of Steve Inman's compilations which is, as the kids say, quite literally "lit".

I refer you to the comment section at the linked blogpost for a personal anecdote which serves as a public service announcement and cautionary tale about the responsible (or, in the case described, irresponsible) use of fireworks.

Update  Here's an oldie but goodie from 2022.

  1. Fireworks CAN be fun, but care is required.

Youngun's, alas, often lack that sense of care. Growing up, us kids loved our bottle rocket wars on the beach ... ...

Once, my older brother and his friends set up a bottle rocket launcher parallel to the road in front of our house. They would launch a rocket as a car passed, trying to get it to explode along side the car. Given that bottle rockets are notoriously unstable in flight, the results were not appreciated by the drivers. Nor my father.

  2. My dad didn’t love fireworks and always went in the house to drink a beer when my uncles shot them off. All my cousins wanted to light them, but I never could be persuaded. I like to watch them from a distance. I’m also waiting for drone operators to get together and create drone light shows like the Chinese do. Can you imagine a giant drone eagle flying overhead?
