But the most outrageous speech at the convention—and perhaps ever given—came from NEA boss Becky Pringle, who ranted on about how those in power are “trying to erase the truth of our history. They want to whitewash the past so our students are denied the full story of who we are. They want to silence all of the pain, all of the struggle. Even in the telling of the triumphs, their narration is incomplete. They want to stop our students from looking inward to see their own dignity or outward to a diverse world filled with possibility and pride.”
Hmm. Doesn't sound much like an organization that wants to see young scholars mature into the scientists and engineers who might one day put an astronaut on Mars, or into the researchers and doctors who may find a cure for cancer. Sounds more like...one of the militant groups that want to turn the U.S. into a one-party state dedicated to creating a new caste system based on race, gender, socialism and ideological purity.
That is not an American landscape; therefore, this organization must be put down and we must dedicate ourselves to undoing the results of its pernicious influence.
I read that paragraph and all I saw was blather, and I actually heard the voice of Charlie Brown’s mother: Wah wu-wah wah wah.

ReplyDeleteThose in power. Who is this referring to? Those in power at the NEA? That's how it reads to me.
Her pronouns must be they/them.
