Is that Inspector Maigret?

A well-dressed young man appeared in a photo along with three uniformed cops shortly after the jewel heist at the Louvre, and there was initial speculation that he might have been a detective assigned to the case: "Dapper man sparks intrigue after appearing at Louvre jewel heist investigation".

Takes me back to my days working in Washington! As it turns out, the man was just a passer-by.

Incidentally, two of the culprits have been bagged: "Paris Police Arrest Two Men in Connection to Louvre Crown Jewel Heist".

  1. In the late1990's I spent a miserable 10 months working in the Sydney CBD near the legal precinct. I used to often see a debonair young chap who looked very similar to this one. He strode the footpaths very confidently, always with a smile and carrying a vintage Gladstone bag. The thing is, I'm
sure he wouldn't have noticed me in the bustling crowd, but I still remember him 30 years later.
Something to be said for that 1930's style Paco.

    1. I pass this along simply as a fact, of no particular significance, but perhaps not entirely without interest: probably 90% of the black women over the age of 50 I passed on the street or in the halls of my building or standing next to me on the Metro took the time to tell me how nice I looked (or how nice my attire looked, I should say). And many black men, too, including one who was a retired tailor. They really dug the fedoras and the double-breasted suits.

As I always used to say, if you're going to be an empty suit, the suit better look good.
