Just in case you needed additional reasons to ignore professional sports
Next up, football! Then baseball, then curling, then... I was pretty unhappy about legalizing that across the country. It's a $trillion business now. Throwing a few $million at players and refs is chump change. I know a guy who makes suggested bets like how much players will score and other stats. If millions bet on a guy to do something and he stops playing, that's worth a lot. Pretty soon it'll make more sense to bet on pro wrestling.
Australian sports scandals are kids stuff by comparison, and the penalties are so light as to be insignificant. Three members of the national team were busted for ball tampering a few years back. Maximum penalty was a year's suspension. I've heard them mentioned regularly on the local sports radio, never a word said about this activity. Bygones are bygones pretty quick when you wear the baggy green.
