Substantial change can happen right under your nose

Daniel Greenfield lays out the details on the demographic changes that have occurred in NYC over the last ten or so years and how those changes boosted Mamdani's mayoral candidacy: "The Fall of New York City in 8 Charts".

How did an Islamist socialist who posed with an unindicted terror bombing coconspirator become elected to head a city of terror survivors, the “most Jewish city in America” and how did he defeat an Italian-American political dynasty in what was once an Italian-American city? Because that New York City, the one people imagine from movies, no longer exists.

I'm hoping that Mamdani's political honeymoon resembles those you read about featuring a newlywed husband who mysteriously disappears off a cruise ship two days after his wedding, but we shall see.

  1. New York City has always been a city of immigrants. It’s just that now the immigrants come from parts of the world without any connection to the American society forged by the earlier immigrants. Barring the stubbornly unassimilable Muslims, most of the immigrants will probably produce future ordinary Americans. Until then, of course, things are likely to be a little chaotic.
