...and then there's collecting. I'm a fan of lever action rifles, but I'm not a fanatic.

WHOA. $450,000!
ReplyDeleteI suppose that $528,750 is fees and taxes.
That's a serious dollop of moolah laid out there.
Yep, that's collecting. But not for me.
Well, that was for two guns, right? So $225K apiece. Why, that's almost bargain territory.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want a gun I can't shoot.
ReplyDeleteIf I got Gustavus Adolphus' wheel lock, I'd put some rounds through it.
I got a Winchester 94 ae 30-30, the 100 year anniversary edition, off my favorite gun store's consignment rack. I loved that rack.
Customized like crazy, polymer furniture, deluxe coating, anti-rust I think, trigger job, moved the sights and changed it to an adjustable peep sight, leather butt cuff for 4 reloads (3+1), enlarged the loop, not like a movie gun, just heated and hammered I think
It's purty.
When I loaded it on the way home from the gun store I could tell it hadn't ever been loaded. Cartridges hadn't been put in loops even.
I don't think I was supposed to shoot it, I think I was supposed to collect it.
I might have fired it once or 60 times.
I collect chess boards, I play on them too.
Does that make me a bad collector?
The only things I collect without using are opportunities.
I should say, they're not expensive sets, just ones I think are cool. I have Yankees v Mets, the Simpsons, stuff like that. My favorite is a hand carved set of Aztecs v Spaniards I got in TJ for $30. Back in 1989 or 90 so I don't think it was 'hand carved' in China.

ReplyDeleteHey, I've got one of those. I haven't modified it, but I do shoot it occasionally.
The collection of chess sets sounds interesting. I've seen some pretty cool ones that I would have liked to own, but never had the money to buy. One that particularly stands out was Napoleon vs Wellington.
When I was substitute teaching I was broke and sold some guns.
ReplyDeleteI listed this and the only response I got was someone berating me for customizing a Winchester.
Apparently, that's for Henrys and Marlins.
