So many guns, so few canoes

  1. I understand there have been sightings of rogue black holes, though.

  3. I have to think it's higher.
They say 1/3 of Americans own guns.
That means more than 100 million people.
That's 5 per gun owner at 100 million.
Most gun owners own at least 2 or 3 I'd think. That's been my experience and, as we all know, the plural of anecdote is data.
So that's 2-300 million to start.
If a quarter or even a tenth of gun owners have small, like 10 guns, medium, large or plus sized collections on the hundreds, you're talking a lot more.
Maybe not a lot more relatively, but 100s of million more.
That worries all the right people.

I would like to know how much ammo Americans have. I'd bet at least a couple trillion or more.

    1. Ammo would be even harder to estimate. You might be able to use sales data for guns, but ammo wouldn't be nearly as accurate, because most ammo is used up, and disappears. But guns can still be around for decades.

I agree, it's likely still a huge number. I don't have five figures of ammo, but it's over half way there.

  4. Yes, I think it would be very difficult to come up with an estimate of ammo out there, especially given the number of reloaders. Definitely in the realm of "oodles", though.

  5. On the subject of ammo, is the home made variety becoming popular? Strong potential for a string of 'cottage industries', perhaps.
