...a practicing Catholic, yearning for another pope: "Pope Leo Scraps Church Doctrine to Appease Dems".
On the April 12 edition of 60 Minutes, the Cardinals lent their talents to a veritable infomercial for the Democratic Party. The openly leftist Blase Cupich, whom Leo appointed Cardinal, called Trump’s social media posts about the war “sickening” and “dehumanizing.” Cardinal Robert McElroy baldly mischaracterized the administration’s illegal immigrant removal, and Cardinal Joseph Tobin blasted Trump for his "graphic exploitation of sacred imagery,” admittedly an unforced error on Trump’s part.
No one mentioned abortion, which claimed more than a million unborn Americans in 2025 alone. No one mentioned the young lives destroyed by “gender affirming therapy.” No one mentioned the scores of Americans murdered by illegal immigrants. No one even mentioned Sheridan Gorman, the Catholic college student murdered last month by an illegal in Cupich’s backyard.
As someone once wrote, never does the church so closely resemble Jesus as when broken and betrayed from within.
There are, however, many priests, nuns, bishops and even a few cardinals who object to the path this pope is taking, pointing out that Leo's pronouncements on political matters, even when clothed in the language of scripture, are merely pastoral in nature and are not in the least binding on the faithful. Pray for guidance, Your Holiness; you can't excommunicate all of us, unless you're content to head up a rump Christian sect.
...and even a few cardinals who object to the path this pope is taking
ReplyDeleteAre you sure about that, Paco? If that were true wouldn't 60 Minutes have interviewed at least one of'em?
You know, to be fair about it. They could damage their reputation for fairness!
Gawrsh, Mickey, yur right! 60 Minutes wouldn't do anything underhanded, would they?
DeleteWho chose him?
ReplyDeleteThe College of Cardinals must really hate The Church.
They need to fundamentally transform it so it meets today's sensibilities.
the Pope name like minded Bishops to the College of Cardinals; the Cardinals usually choose from among themselves, guided by the Holy Spirit, so change is not much of an option; theoretically any adult Catholic man can be chosen, but it's only happened half a dozen times, and the last one was 200 years ago, so it's time, oh, and most popes die in office, Leo is youngish, so it's a real long shot.
ReplyDeleteThe Church has survived Avignon and Borgia popes, so I imagine it can survive Francis and Leo. I'd put myself forward, but the Vatican would have to let me wear a fedora and not that rather silly-looking mitre. I don't think the current crew would find me congenial to their progressivism, either.
DeleteAbout that Trump/Jesus image - AI image generators can deliver strange results. I asked for a picture of a lady beside a Christmas tree, and got a lady growing out of a Christmas tree.
ReplyDeleteTrump, or whoever whipped that image up, probably said 'Make me look like a doctor - yeah, okay, close enough.' As opposed to 'Hey! Where's the beard and the long hair? Where are the holes in my hands? Start over, dammit!'
