I don’t think of incarceration as punishment so much as keeping the people who like to commit crimes away from all of us who don’t commit crimes. Rehabilitation only works in those few who actually want to be rehabilitated.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the main reason for incarceration is to separate the evil-doers from the rest of us. Maybe they get rehabilitated, maybe they don't, but jailing them at least isolates the threat.
