December 13th marks two important anniversaries:
(1) On this day, in 2000, Al Gore conceded the presidential election to George Bush, and...
(2) On this day, in 2003, Saddam Hussein was captured.
I daresay that if it hadn't been for (1), we (and the Iraqi people) wouldn't be celebrating (2).

The day Saddam was captured, I flew out of BIA bound for Jax...in a snow storm. It was rather festive for me, knowing that scumball was in custody.
ReplyDeleteAs for AlGore, hubby deployed that time not knowing who his President would be yet. What's the name of that fellow - SoreLoserMan? Perfect. He's laughing all the way to the bank...or Swiss account, or maybe just Bahamas?
We dodged a major bullet in 2000. President Gore would have turned around and bent over at the waist on 11 September 2001.
ReplyDeleteAs for Saddam.....he came to a fitting end.
One thing is certain: G W Bush handled the shock and horror of 9/11 better than Al Gore would have ever done.
ReplyDeleteYes, he stayed in the classroom when told that a plane had hit. What should he have done? Screamed, ran and panicked a class full of 5 year olds? No. He stayed there, didn't let the disbelief he must have felt panic the children, and made a quiet, dignified exit.
As a president, you don't get a situation worse than 9/11 to truly test you. I think George Bush passed that test.
I shudder to think what Al Gore would have done.
Ash: I have always maintained that if Al Gore had been elected, we'd still be trying to get the UN to impose economic sanctions on Taliban-led Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteI think we would still be working on resubmitting the motion to quash the motion that delayed a vote on the motion to submit a motion to file the required enviornmental impact study that had delayed the motion to bring a motion to quash the vote on a motion to require a vote on sanctions for Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteNope; he would have flown to Kabul for talks, and thus initiate the much-hymned Afghan winter. The Taleban would have been frozen out, f'sure.
