The New Political Paradigm

On the one hand we have Barack Obama, liberal Democrat FDR wannabe, and on the other we have his defeated foe, John McCain, who, as Jim Geraghty points out, has resumed his old role of throwing conservatives under the bus in order that his vaunted bipartisanship might shine. The former thinks Big Government is the answer, the second says that’s fine with him if it will enable us to “get to work” (and he’d probably embrace cannibalism, too, if the Democrats bid him to do so). Unless the Republican Party throws off the yoke of despair, and discovers within itself a raison d’ĂȘtre that transcends the goal of a government paycheck for the dwindling band of its membership that manages to win elective office, we are likely to wind up with political leadership that looks something like this…

And who wants Two-Headed-Thingocracy?

  1. And let's not forget all those Republicans rolling over for him, Paco. Like Hatch backing some of Obama's Cabinet choices. Sucking up is not pretty at anytime.

I've read that the Republican leadership is wary of challenging due to his "popularity". That 2.2% difference between unity and division sure is influential, isn't it?

  2. Hatch has always struck me as a bit of a boob. I think Republicans ought to go for broke and fight the Democrats tooth and nail on every policy where there's principled disagreement.

  3. Except that Hatch isn't as bats**t crazy as Specter. Amongst others.

And, yup, draw the line, based on principals, and stick it out. No more of this touchie-feelie crap.

TW: gulash. No, you stupid computer, I'm having steak and a baked potato for dinner, not goulash. Maybe next week, OK?

TW: crooding: As what I have already done, conflating Hillary with Humanoids from the Deep.

  6. Oh, yeah, Obama is so "bi-partisan".....

  7. You've already got the same problem the conservatives had when Blair was the flavour of the month in the UK, and what we have here now in Australia with the unbelievably incompetent Krudd riding high in the polls.

The main issue for the opposition in these times is to appease the politics not the truth. Turnbull is struggling here, it took Cameron a long time to create a point of difference in the UK, and I think the Republicans may wander lonely in Purgatory for a while in your neck of the woods.

By the way who is running the Republicans in opposition? Who's the fall guy? Mehaul

  8. Mehaul: That's the problem; no one's obviously in charge.

  9. Gosh, here I thought a paradigm was 20 cents.

Which is about what this Obama team is worth.

Now of course if one adds the 800 BILLION or more WE are going to pay, just add the two dimes to that.

    "coodites"? They have a union?

  10. Let's see, now, Cid; how many dimes in $800MM? A whole lot, I bet.
