A pastor in Louisville, Kentucky has invited his congregation to pack heat for a Fourth of July and Second Amendment celebration at his church.
A little different, I’ll admit. But I’d rather live in a place where this sort of thing is possible than in one where it isn’t. The sophisticates in the town where I work (Washington, D.C.) love to look down their noses at people whom they consider to be nothing more than Bible-thumping, gun-toting rubes, and they’ll laugh among themselves at such hillbilly antics – while constantly looking over their shoulders, in even the best parts of town, to make sure they’re not about to be jumped by muggers, and then shut themselves behind the doors of their townhouses at night, armed with – at best – a golf club or a baseball bat against the possible home invasion - which, should it come, will invariably feature young thugs carrying semi-automatic pistols.

ReplyDeleteAnd then they pat themselves on the back for being so "progressive".
Me, I call it stupid.
Heh. Glad I'm not progressive.

ReplyDeleteEloi and Morlocks. What would the godfather of progressivism (http://www.city-journal.org/2009/19_2_HG-wells.html) make of his descendants?
ReplyDeleteOne of the people at the federal agency where I work was walking home one night in DC recently; he lives in a nice area. A car pulled over and a couple of guys jumped out and beat him senseless. He was hospitalized with four broken ribs and a collapsed lung. You know what they got away with? His IPod. A good Samaritan found him lying on the sidewalk and called an ambulance. When the G/S called the police to see if they had any leads, they didn't know anything about the attack (the hospital forgot to notify the police).
ReplyDeleteI may have to work in D.C., but I wouldn't live there on a bet.
That's why I moved out of Chicago, Paco. I lived and worked there for 5 years. 'Twas enough!

ReplyDeleteOr, being hypcrites as well as cowards, they hire some poor schlub looking for a job to drive around their gated community with a revolver, expexting him or her to put their lives on the line for them for the minimum wage and no dental...
