"England is a cesspit. England is the breeding ground of fundamentalist Muslims. Its social logic is to allow all religions to preach openly. But this is illogic, because none of the other religions preach apocalyptic violence. And yet England allows it. Remember, that country was the breeding ground for communism, too. Karl Marx did all his work in libraries there."Rather too obviously a trick question. The commenter is Nigerian author and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka.
Here’s the big money quote:
”[Solinka suggested] rigorous punishment for those who feel, not 'I'm right, you're wrong,' but 'I'm right, you're dead.'"
Obviously an inauthentic black man. Ask any White Collegege Educated Democrat...
ReplyDeleteWole's autobiographical writings are awesome. If you haven't yet you need to read Ake. Then read 'And the Man Died' (his prison notes).
ReplyDeleteSomeone (I can't remember who) said "What if George Orwell had been a happy man? Then he would have been Wole Soyinka".
I've been reading biographies for 30 years now Paco, and let me tell you, most of them have unhappy endings. There I am all excited with the heroes increasingly successful/virtuous/creative life, when BAM, just like that, they die.
Wole Soyinka's biographies are among the rare few - worth reading, and he doesn't die at the end.
Robert: Thanks for the recommendation. Sounds like some great reading.
