"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Prince Charles is a prime example of why royalty in-breeding is a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt that he is eccentric and I wonder what sort of king he will make.
ReplyDeleteBut on the other hand, he was successful in stopping an appalling bit of modern architecure being inflicted on a barracks originally built by Wren which he did by getting on the phone to the Qatari royal family who were backing it. See http://www.nybooks.com/blogs/nyrblog/2010/jul/23/deconstructing-prince-charles/ for more detail. Anyone who does anything to stop modern architecture must have some good points.
cac: Agree with you on the architectural points. There are some upsides to being a backward looking anachronism. OTOH, still waiting for Elizabeth to name William as her heir.
