That, my friends, was a man

Dan Collins links to this tragic, but heroic, story of Mexican rancher Don Alejo Garza Tamez who defied an ultimatum issued by a local drug lord to abandon his property. He died on his feet, but he killed four gunmen and wounded two more. Do read the whole thing.

  1. emodisIsn't it about time we just made these people go away? The government knows where these people are. This has been beyond criminality for quite awhile now. We are experiencing terrorism at the hands of these people. The Mexican government needs to act accordingly.

  2. Yojimbo -- The Mexican government IS these people, at least as far as their bank accounts are concerned.

  3. Excuse me for a minute, while I imagine that the ordinary citizens of Mexico might take inspiration from this brave old man and rise en masse to stand against the cartels and their own corrupt government.

    Nice while it lasted.

  4. Rebecca: I spent a few moments entertaining the same thought. It might take a hundred - or a thousand - brave citizens like this, preferably acting in concert, to accomplish what the government can't.

  5. Paco, I think it's better to say that the Mexican government won't, not can't.
