"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Yes, indeed. No photoshop there.
ReplyDeleteNote the missing magazine: precautions were taken.
ReplyDeleteCheers
And the blank adapter.
ReplyDeleteJohn W. Thomason, a Marine officer who served in WWI, between the wars, and WWII, who wrote stories for magazines about the Marine Corps, once referred to "the world's most ludicrous sight, a sailor with a rifle."
ReplyDelete'... a sailor with a rifle'
ReplyDeleteIsn't that how the Marines started out too, a long time ago?
Cheers Smitty!
Wow! Bet this wasn't the look that Smitty was thinking about when he signed up.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the service doesn't even pretend anymore. When I was stationed in Germany, the guards were given no ammo, so the joke was that if we were confronted we were supposed to yell, "BANG! BANG!".

I have a similar picture of My Sailor on his next to last deployment. He was in a flight suit, but the other accoutrement were similar.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't have shown that pic to his family, they freaked. Didn't know he'd be in DANGER, dontchaknow, he was a Sailor!
Bruce,
ReplyDeleteNo. As MG Julian Thomson RM, who led 3rd Commando Brigade in the recapture of the Falkland Islands in 1982, wrote, Marines are soldiers who go to sea, not sailors who fight on land.
As for Smitty, good luck and may you come back whole, without any missing parts.
