  2. Still, the good news—and I have this courtesy of Nick Bryant’s column in The Australian today—is that the great healer, Barack Obama, is doing his best to effect a post-racial America:
“The intervention of Barack Obama, a politician who has always sought to de-emphasise his colour, makes the point. Only twice during his presidency has he inserted himself deliberately into the racial debate.
“Both involved matters of policing: the Martin case, where he poignantly observed that his son would have resembled the 17-year-old; and the case of Henry Louis Gates, the black Harvard academic arrested on his own doorstep by a white police officer.
“At least history suggests that good might eventually come from the Martin case - perhaps bringing closer the day when a young black man dressed in a hooded sweatshirt can walk the streets of a mainly white neighbourhood [whether or not he might be casing the joint] without the presumption of guilt.”
If only Obama could direct his fine legal brain to the court system (in addition to his being granted unfettered power to do as he list), and America’s problems would soon be over!

  3. Afterwards, march him to the cloak room and administer the paddling of his life.
