"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
With all of the problems facing England, it's amazing how minutiae becomes so important.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or shouldn't it be The Queen Elizabeth Tower.
ReplyDeleteI thought the British were very proper when it comes to the Royal Family. It seems a little casual, to just call it The Elizabeth Tower.
It would be like calling the White House...Barack's House.
No, that's just wrong!
Big Ben is the name of the bell in the tower, not the tower nor the clock.
ReplyDeleteTwo words, Jeff:
ReplyDeleteSenator Harry Reid.
Cheers
Deborah Leigh said...This is surely a great moment in British history, and it is their tower to do with as they wish, but the inscription that is already in place is to Victoria. What does a monarch get when she or he succeeds in equaling or besting the sixty year reign? Well, it will still be Big Ben to everyone else. Elizabeth was just being gracious.
ReplyDeleteThe armada on the Thames was amazing, but it didn't seem like a thousand. Anyone else feel the same?
