I don't eat seafood because I don't like the taste

Now I also have another reason.

I like seafood (I grew up along Puget Sound, after all), but not ALL seafood.

And especially not calamari. It's very popular in the Far East; Koreans and Japanese especially like it.

UGH!

I give that story a creep factor of 17 out of 10.
I do like sea food but not all seafood, as well and will only eat squid when it is well breaded and fried. Raw fish would be tuna only, sushi is for wimps.

Say, Jeff, this is off-topic, but I read an article the other day about a guy, either in Oregon or Washington, who was diagnosed with the black plague. Er, ya'll don't get a lot of that in the northwest, do you?

JeffS said...

Ummmmmm.....no, we don't, Paco. I've heard of cases, off and on, over the years. But not exclusively in the PNW.

I Binged the relevant news articles; the guy lives near Prineville, OR, not all that far from here. Only a few hours drive.

And he apparently got it from a stray cat in his neighborhood. Yet another reason to distrust ferals -- better alert Mabel to be on the lookout.

Mabel snubs cats completely.

Ah, but does she run them out of her territory? Chasing cats might be an important survival trait in the coming apocalypse.

Equally off-topic, but the bureaucracy known as the FDA really needs to be cut back. Maybe down to one office with 5 people. They have too much time on their hands.

And the same for other Federal bureaucracies.

That story is kind of marvellous. Nature is endless creative and prolific in its means of furthering itself.

Our family Fox Terrier, Bella, was quite a disappointment to my three brothers and me around cats. She generally loved chasing beasts, but on the two or three occasions when cats wandered near her backyard... they chased her. We'd heard so much about the vendetta between cats and dogs, and to have that happen - well, it was shameful, really.

Now the Baron and I have cats ourselves I realise they're fearsome creatures... they have excellent means of intimidating other creatures, especially dogs. they've been known to team up when a dog comes into the house, specifically for the purpose of beating him up.

How dare y'all go off-topic on this blog.

I see that Paco Enterprises has expanded its fine dining division into the Tucson area with the addition of Paco's Mexican Food AND drive thru in the northeast section of town. No word on Wron but I did see something that did look like the Tardis under tarps in the back.

When I quit smoking, I had to quit eating fish and seafood of any kind - it all tasted like the bottom of the aquarium smelled. After awhile, I could manage fresh-caught shrimp from Mayport, and I'm working some white fish back into my diet (for health's sake).

But after one try of the calimari at Red Lobster nearly 35 years ago, then acquiring squid for a certain 'initiation' someone I know was involved in, I have no intention of ever touching octopus or squid or anything like that EVER again.

This story seems to validate my disigust with the whole idea!

I love fried calamari with piquant mustard sauce, and I've had fried baby squid in antipasto. Get it when it's too old, though, and it's just like chewing rubber bands.

Deborah Leigh....Saw a National Geographic special where a octopus figured how to the lid off a jar to get a crab out. I decided then that octopus was off the "can eat" list. Squid as well, since anything that can change colors to communicate should be left alone. Espcially the Humbolt variety that put fear into the heart of Mexican fishermen. There was a "researcher" who decided to take a lightbar down into the depths to attempt communication with a Humbolt. He barely escaped. Idiot.
