Ought to be enough to buy a nice funeral wreath

Chicago's offering citizens $100 gift cards if they'll turn in those nasty old guns.

Compare that story with this one.

  1. "This is a chance to get some money for their weapon, and get another dangerous weapon on the street.”

I'm assuming this is just an example of sloppy journalism.

But, I would point out that guns aren't "dangerous weapons". Guns are inanimate objects.

They can become dangerous in the hands of the criminal, stupid, or careless.

  2. So we strongly suggest that people come out that have weapons lying around the house, or weapons, maybe, that they don’t necessarily want in their house.

Mr. H kicks aside the .45, the .22, and the AK lying on the living room floor: "Hey, R! Reckon we can get some money for turning in summa this clutter?"

Me: "Sure! Make a nice down payment on a new .50 cal! Or, hey, maybe an RPG!"

  3. Disclaimer for the previous: We don't live in Chicago, thank God.

  4. $100 for a gun? That's dirt cheap. Quite literally, a steal.

Dollars to donuts, some of the better weapons turned will end up in the hands of cops. Or the gangs.

I say this because I lived in Chicago for 5 years. I knew Chicago cops. I knew gang members. I knew supporters of gang members. They'll jump at the chance for cheap weapons.
