"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Great fast version, I'm more familiar with Louis Armstrong's, with Ella I think. Loved the guitar, Charlie Christian? - Maybe not.
ReplyDeleteFats Waller recorded with a combo known as his "Ryhthm", and I can't recall the name of the guitarist (plus, I don't know if he recorded Soundies with his regular group, or with other musicians). The guy on the guitar is good, though.
ReplyDeleteChristian was with Benny Goodman, but it appears members of Goodman's and Count Basie's bands recorded together in 1940 - this very song - so I think it is the great Mr Christian.

It does sound like him.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the song was written by Fats Waller, in collaboration with Andy Razaf.
