"polar vortex" is apparently a term from the 1950s that the press was recently told about - I still refer to its effect in my area by an older term, the "Montreal Express."

Deborah ...."Polar Vortex" was a first to me. It sounds like a New Age, hippie term. But who knows. However, I didn't think a vortex acted like this.

In Ohio, bitter cold sweeping down from Canada is known as "the Alberta Clipper" because it always comes from the northwest. Polar vortex is a new one on me, but whatever. It's not really a new phenomenon.
