The day I ceased being a Republican

Mission accomplished, GOP establishment! With your help in pushing Democrats to vote in Mississippi’s open primary, pork-barrel mossback Thad Cochran has once again been assured of a swell DC office in which to entertain lobbyists flush with cash - in between taking long siestas and carrying an occasional bucket of slop for Mitch McConnell.

Jeff Goldstein, as happens so frequently, puts it best: The GOP establishment employed a strategy which “amounted to using liberal Democrats to disenfranchise Republicans in a Republican primary”. Because We the People are such cloth-headed yahoos that we don’t know what’s good for us, you see. Will we never learn that the freemasonry of Washington politics requires a special breed of Republican - the Savvy Survivor, the Silver-Tongued Invertebrate who knows how to Get things Done, the Professional Time Server who's willing to grudgingly express the occasional slight reservation about the president’s boyishly energetic pace in wrecking the Constitution?

Well, no, I guess I never will learn, obtuse constitutionalist that I am. So when the Republican priesthood exhorts me to go and vote for their guy because the Democrat is even worse, I’ll just have to say include me out. Because I no longer consider myself to be a member of the Republican Party. Sure, some database somewhere may indicate that I am, and I’ll still probably wind up voting for Republicans, if and when I see a point in voting. But I see no advantage in aiding and abetting the slow strangulation of liberty by participating in a farce run by the Mensheviks of the ruling class. As far as I am concerned, the “loyal opposition” is loyal only to its own perks and privileges, and such conservatism as it espouses from time to time is little more than a ploy to attract the votes of people who are not paying attention, the mere courtship dancing of a bird of paradise seeking a one-night stand. Going forward, color me “independent”.

In short, the establishment is an impediment to the next revolution, and I am not as patient as I used to be.

Thad Cochran: "I find your lack of collaborationist zeal…disturbing".

The Republican Party has become that embarrassing uncle that you'd prefer to ignore, but can't because he's your only uncle.

I'm with you on that one.

The icing on the cake is that in Mississippi it's illegal to vote in both the GOP and the Dem primary.
I wonder how many Dem voters voted Dem in the primary and then again in the GOP runoff primary.

It's also illegal in Miss. to not vote for the party you voted for in the primary.
Now, that's a dumb, hard to enforce law, but the GOP encouraged Dems to break the law in order to retain power against the wishes of their party.

You have to admit, the Funniest End of Civilization Ever rarely fails to deliver the funny and the endy.

Welcome to the Dark Side, Paco. I have been registered NPA in Florida since 2003. I sleep better at night.

I think there are a heck of a lot of Republicans going rogue.

I voted for Cindy Sheehan for Governor of California in the recent primary.

Oh, yes I did. Don't look at me like that.

Give the peepul (God bless their black, flabby little hearts) a good solid dose of high-order Moonbat. Go full Crazytown.

Best thing for 'em.

Politics is also the art of winning. True, Cochran played dirty to get Democrat (especially black) votes in various parts of the state. But look at it this way: McDaniel hardly got any increase in votes in the Republican areas that could have put him over the top. Some Republican areas he even lost votes! A little more street action on his side could have changed things.

I think they ought to rename the "Republican Party" the "Lemming Party".

It took the Reform Party, and then The Alliance Party before the Canadian Conservative Party ceased being a Liberal Party in Blue Ties
