  1. A few managed to get away. But really, Paco, the high point of this story so far (until its conclusion) is the tweet by Wendy Bacon.
I'm not sure the English language has a word people like this.

  2. Y'all may recall (if ye pay any attention to matters Oz) a muslim sheikh who was arrested for sending hate letters to the families of Aussie soldiers KIA in Afghanistan.

Well, turns out that same sheikh is the perp in this hostage/siege/terrorist event.

  4. All over now. He's become the late Sheikh Ratbag.

Alas it seems one hostage shot dead, others seriously injured.

  7. Australia accepted the sheikh as a refugee from Iran in 1996. Can someone tell me what action by the Iranian regime caused him to seek refuge?

  8. Skeeter: No doubt he seethed with impatience at the slow pace of the Iranian government's savagery.

I heard them say he recently converted from one breed of islam to another. Maybe his old breed was considered undesirable in iranistan.

  10. His conversion from Shia to Sunni was quite recent.

The basis of his refugee claim (would y'all believe?) was that he was "a liberal muslim" and in hardline Iran that brought on persecution.

  11. Steve: You know, that may actually be true. Maybe he is "liberal" by Iranian standards.

  12. PM Abbott and NSW Premier Baird have ordered a joint enquiry:

I have a feeling that the picking of this particular scab will reveal a lot more pockets of gangrene than they expect.
