ReplyDeleteAmen.

ReplyDeleteI wonder what our fearless leader would have done.
Oh, wait. I meant feckless.
Obama would have squealed like a girl and hidden underneath his 150 SS bodyguards.
ReplyDeleteI worked with an Assyrian. One day I happened to mention to him, in a friendly manner, that he looked just like ancient Assyrian palace sculptures.
ReplyDeleteHe said, "Yes, I am Assyrian".
Goodness, quoth I, I thought you all died out 3000 years ago.
"No, there are a million of us". And in fact a good many a Christian.
The term Assyrian became applied to the Aramaic-speaking Christians of Mesopotamia in Late Antiquity. Their Christianity is derived from the Nestorian Church, or the Church of the East (there is also a group that has reconciled with Roman Catholicism). The Orthodox Christians of the Roman Empire ran them out in the fifth century and they moved the center of their Church over the border into the Persian Empire. At one time (8th century) the Church extended all the way to China and had many followers in Central Asia. Unfortunately, Genghis Khan's and Tamerlain's invasions did them great demographic damage.
