He seems to have gone from bright young thing to Pelosi-like establishment insider.
Maybe I'm wrong. But if I were a legislator I’d be hard-pressed to support any bill pushed by Obama that gives him substantial new powers, for the simple reason that I don’t think he can be trusted. Bills, laws, regulations, treaties, these things don’t implement themselves, and they are all too susceptible to misuse and abuse by a power-hungry chief executive with a crate full of ideological axes to grind. If, as some aver, the proposed trade bill contains climate change and immigration booby-traps, who’s going to defuse them? Paul Ryan? Mitch McConnell? Confidence level: low.
Update: Will Republicans drag Obama's trade bill across the finish line?

I'm of the opinion that anybody that votes yes on that agreement without knowing exactly what is in it should be drawn and quartered, then the quarters should be tarred and feathered.
ReplyDeleteNSA found the skeletons in his closet and are rattling them at him?
ReplyDeleteYeah Ryan has screwed himself. Probably seduced by the big business lobby and the RINO establishment. Flattery and easy living go hand in hand in Washington.
ReplyDeleteHe joined Romney in 2012 and went all establishment.
ReplyDeleteIt was depressing to watch.
Dammmmit, I still want to be a robot.
Or at least have one as a best friend, preferably Bender or Hedonismbot.
Darth Vader: You underestimate the power of the Dark Side. If you will not fight, then you will meet your destiny.
ReplyDeletePaul Ryan obviously didn't fight the power of the Dark Side.
Veeshir: Maybe you could find a nice used ASIMO. They look friendly.
I recall the intense arguments in Canada regarding the US FTA, it got pretty hysterical. In fact, these agreements are not Free Trade Agreements, but controlled and monitored trade.
ReplyDeleteThere is now more bureaucracy than ever in crossing the border with goods. The large corps love it.
The most alarming thing about this current deal (of which Canada is a member) is the complete secrecy, which in the US has become idiotic. And we all know what happened to Obamacare - you can find out what is in it when you've passed it. This is no way to govern, and Americans have a right to be suspicious about anything Obomber touches.
I'm sick and tired of Washington passing laws without bothering to read them, so nobody knows what's in them until we have to deal with the consequences.
ReplyDeleteYou know RebeccaH, I have to wonder if now it's time to say "Ignorance of the law is a defense" as even the people passing them don't know what's in them.
ReplyDeleteI mean for us little people of course, our social, moral, political and intellectual betters don't seem to have to follow the laws.
As for ASIMO, I'm more likely to end up with AWESOM-O
Have the recent FCC regulations on the internet been published yet? I thought not.

Yeah just what I'm thinking. The whole 'intellectual property' thing is unsustainable, as I believe is any legal system based on intent rather than on act, ie. based on mind-reading.
And the good news for US govt workers is they can now visit China in the express lane because the forms have all been pre-filled in.
ReplyDeleteHaw!
