...which is currently at a 45 degree descent line straight toward the tarmac at 200 mph from about 1,000 feet, Iowahawk (shouldn't we routinely be appending "the Great" to his name?) has proposed making today National Offend A College Student Day.
Also, catch this hilariously spot-on satire of campus p.c. fascism from Australian comedian Neel Kolhatkar.

You've got to kill it at the source. By my reckoning, that source is the US popular media. Even the BBC is just taking cues from there. Exhibit A: every single (Godless!) woman in the english speaking world now says "Oh My God" at every opportunity: Valley Girl talk and culture is now universal, damn you Beverly Hills 90210 and your spawn.
ReplyDeleteI look at that video, made at my son's university (!), and see wannabe valley-girls. Meanwhile the greatest tragedy, the real girls but mainly men who made all this indulgence possible, see no hope and are slowly killing themselves in tens of thousands:

Fantastic,Iowahawk! But everyday should be "offend a college student day". Extend that to HS, so that they know that plumbers make more than philosophers.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant video! Well done, Neel.
I spent a lot of years at various universities, both as student, and at the end of my varied career, as an employee. It's been more than a decade since my employment, but I can say that college students are just slightly older versions of dumbass high school students, and it takes them time to make the transition to adulthood (which usually only happens when they have to go to work at a real job and suddenly realize where money comes from). Some, sadly, never do, thanks to overindulgent helicopter parents, but I like to think the majority do, whether they like it or not.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, our universities are morphing into something that is determined to keep them from ever finding out how the world actually works until it's too late, thanks to federal easy money (and the aforementioned helicopter parents). The main problem is the old-style media and lawerly attention given to the loudest, most relentless of the whiners.
