Unfortunately, this seems entirely plausible
"The truth is this: the establishment wing of the Republican Party would rather Hillary Clinton win than Ted Cruz win. If Ted Cruz wins, a good number of the establishment staff would be on the unemployment line, shut out of jobs in the White House that they covet."

ReplyDeleteWhich doesn't make sense. If Clinton wins, they would still be shut out of jobs in the WH, right? So that must not be the real reason, which I'd guess is that they're all neo-liberals, and hate Cruz because he's a real conservative.
Yeah, that may be an even better reason.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if they face a Humphrey Appleby bureaucratic wall and that's what turns them into RINOs. "Yes Minister, but have you considered that...?" Bureaucrats can always come up with a million reasons not to change the status quo, to preserve their jobs, and strategies to prevent outsiders from having influence.
ReplyDeleteI think bureaucrats love the Clintons.
ReplyDeleteBruce,
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you are correct about them running into Sir Humphrey lookalikes. I gave a copy of the book "Yes, Minister" to a friend of my father's who had served as a state cabinet secretary in a Dem administration. After reading it, he told me that it was an accurate picture of how government works in a modern, democratic country.
And to think that a Jim Hacker was the cream that rose to the top.
