Snake(s) in the garden

Uh oh, looks like trouble here in paradise. There's been a crime spree going on in Southport, and I didn't even notice it - probably because it was being perpetrated by the police department:
The police chief in a small Eastern North Carolina town was arrested Thursday, along with one of his lieutenants, and charged with corruption and other crimes, according to multiple news reports.

Southport Police Chief Gary Lee Smith and Lt. Michael Simmons were both charged with obtaining property by false pretense, according to Wilmington television station WWAY. Smith was also charged with obstruction of justice and willful failure to discharge the duties of his office, WWAY reported.
Hey, sounds like it must be an easy job. Since there's now an opening, maybe I'll apply, myself. But only if they let me dress like this...

Why, that's ol' Pistol Pete! You could dress like that as the new sheriff in town, and be known as Pistol Paco.

And wear a star on your chest, and a big iron on your hip.

According to the news story the Sheriff and Lt were caught because of complaints filed by rank and file officers. Now the entire department is on leave and policing is being handled by the County Sheriff's department. hopefully the honest cops who were put on leave are not losing money.

Bucky: I suspect they're on suspension with pay.

And right you are, R-man, that's none other than Frank "Pistol Pete" Eaton, cowboy, scout, lawman and crack shot.

Sheesh! How are top cops that stupid? They should know how evade detection.

Paco, you have the suit, a weapon, and are exceedingly smarter than the predecessors. You probably even have the fob. Pistol Paco, crack shot, law (supporter), and scout. Now ya need the hat, boots (remember to tuck em), belt with snazzy buckle. Will you wear the fancy scarf?

Detective Paco goes west...west Southport.

I've got the hat and the boots! I'll even wear a badge (although I remember the crusty old deputy in El Dorado saying to John Wayne - or maybe it was James Caan - "it'll give somebody a good mark to shoot at.")

Paco, you have the hat and boots? Great! Do you have an old box with things your parents saved for you? There might be a (Roy Rogers or Lone Ranger) badge.

What about the scarf, Pistol Packing Paco?
