Would you like a little graft to go with that hypocrisy?

Chicago City Council member Ed Burke has been charged with trying to shake down a restaurant franchise; interestingly, this outspoken advocate of gun control had 23 guns in his office.

In order to convict him, they'll have to have his trial somewhere ... anywhere ... outside of Chicago.

I've known some people (natives or long-time residents) who take a perverse sort of pride in Chicago's reputation for corruption and violence - which strikes me as completely irrational, don't get it at all.

It's the only game in town. A very stupid and amazingly expensive one, but the gangsters have the local politics sewn up tight. This was the case when I lived there in the 1980s.

And the primary reason as to why I moved.
