Not all capitalists are conservatives

In fact, it's been evident for some time that many, if not most, of the super-rich are quite left-wing. The same warning label applies to U.S. military leaders: "Former military leaders in a coalition with Gabby Giffords are urging Congress to pass the same gun controls that failed in Illinois and California within past few months." The names include former Coast Guard Commandant Thad Allen, former Aghanistan Commander Stanley McChrystal, and former NSA and CIA director Michael Hayden.

Ah, Michael Hayden. A vociferous NeverTrumper whose background has mostly been in intelligence. What qualifies him, especially, as an expert in the use of small arms, let alone constitutional law? For that matter, why should the opinions of Allen and McChrystal carry any special weight in connection with this issue, either? Because they may have received training in the kinds of weapons that, for the most part, are not even legally available for purchase by civilians? Spare us the name dropping, gun controllers.

In McChrystal's case, he may be well aware of the troubles an armed populace can give an occupying military force. I mean, if you don't want to go all Eric Swallwell and throw nukes around, you still need to occupy the land to control it.

As for millionaires and billionaires, in general they like a large intrusive government that they can capture and use to hinder competition.

Right on both counts. If McChrystal is worrying about having to subdue an armed populace closer to home - is actually worrying that that is a possibility - then, as far as I'm concerned, there's another "Hurrah!" for the Second Amendment.

Capitalists go where the money is. From the 1960s women's spending power matched mens, so that's what the market followed. Take toilet paper, my Dad grew up wiping with newspaper and refused to change until late in life. No money in catering to men's taste in that market. I think it's fair to say that en masse, women lean left, especially the younger ones with more disposable income. Also the market is increasingly about short term gains. Adam Smith could not have foreseen this nexus of instant gratification and young wealth in markets.

And convert capitalism into cronyism, with gubmint approval.

Heinlein wrote something about how the most dangerous threat to capitalism is successful capitalists.
Smart guy that Heinlein.

"The ink stains in the butt crack must have been epic" Yeah that occurred to me later, haha. People here used newspaper for everything before 1960, even storing clothes, and had stacks. I think the ink dries out if you keep it a few months.
