Well I'm a history obsessive, and our 'Foo was here' way predates Kilroy:

Foo was still everywhere when we were young, on walls and kid's graffiti. No one knows where it came from.

I should have said bugler. It's all 'trumpets' to me, even if it's actually a cornet. Heart-rending anyway, still hearing it in my mind.
