Happy Feet Friday

Jazz musician Oscar Pettiford broke his arm sometime in 1949, and wasn't able to play the double bass for a while; however, he was able to work with a cello, so he wound up becoming a pioneer in utilizing this instrument in jazz. Here's Pettiford with "In a Cello Mood".

  1. A broken arm and we got the chamber jazz of the 50s? Like Chico Hamilton with Fred Katz on cello.

Jack Bruce gets writing and bass credits for Apostrophe, the one song he recorded with Zappa, but Jack says he only played cello on it. Apparently, Zappa criticised his bass playing while dour Scotsman Bruce (!) said Zappa's music was 'awful', probably for the same reason Zappa irritated the rest of us with his overdone 'humor'.
