Pretty accurate, in truth

  1. Get a trickle of water going so the pipes don't freeze? 'Now no one touch this sink!' Haha, yeah I get it that the South is warm and these cold climate things don't happen there.

Plus the over-reacting handyman type - reminds me of me, annoying my family with my precautions.

Enjoyed that bit of cultural diversity.

    1. The south isn't warmer right now. We had hard freezes last week all over south Texas (we're 40 miles west of San Antonio). We left the water from the faucet in one bathroom trickle. The outside pipes are already protected.

  2. My windshield keeps getting fogged up and I have to drive to the bar without seeing anything in addition to driving home from the bar without seeing anything.

  3. Back when we lived in North Carolina (outside Ft. Bragg), our water pipe froze and burst. Super cold fronts can sweep down in any random winter and freeze the South.

  4. In 2013 a bushfire broke out 10-15 miles north of our town, other side of a deep canyon. My next-door neighbour came across to warn us to be ready to evacuate, because he worked at HQ where they'd done 'modelling' (like these climate models) which showed the fire 'will be here tomorrow'.

I'd already been through several bushfires where it took at least a week to come that far, and by that time the crews had it under control. So I just smiled at him and said 'maybe'. I was right eventually, it never reached us at all.

Over the years we've learned not to get so excited about these things. We went from panicking newbies to stoic locals. (Famous last words I know!)
