Or is it? "Law Will Install Kill Switches In All New Cars".
According to an article written by former U.S. Representative Bob Barr, hidden away in the recently passed infrastructure bill, the very one I warned before would negatively impact drivers across the country if it were to pass, is a measure to install vehicle kill switches into every new car, truck, and SUV sold in this country. The regulation likely won’t be enforced for five years, so maybe there’s time to do something about this.
As we’ve seen both in this country and others recently, what constitutes “law-abiding” can change drastically overnight. For example, in September a car was pulled over in New Zealand and the occupants arrested when police discovered the trunk was full of Kentucky Fried Chicken meals. They were smuggling the fast food to customers in locked-down Auckland, against quarantine measures. Yet not too long before, delivering restaurant orders to people was considered a reputable, legal activity.
How the hell does government have the right, under the laws of God or Man, to do something like this? And you Republicans who voted for the bill that contains this assault on individual freedom, was this a case of you clowns not reading the bill? Or are you ok with it?
...was this a case of you clowns not reading the bill? Or are you ok with it?
ReplyDeleteBoth, probably. They are clowns, after all.
Oh, and the easy way to avoid this...not ever buy a new car after it starts. That's my plan, anyway.
ReplyDeleteThey'll just make a provision that all vehicles must have "the switch".
DeleteThe kill switch thing is bad enough but I can't get past the smuggling KFC story. Imagine the scene in lock up: "So whatcha in for?" Btw, what happened to the evidence?
ReplyDeleteJust imagine some future Klimaführer deciding that auto emissions in Atlanta or Dallas are excessively high for the day, and turning off the engines on all the cars with, say, VINs ending in an even number. Or your car happens to be parked in the vicinity of another "insurrection", and the Dept. of Just-Us sees fit to turn off all the vehicles pending the conclusion of their "investigation".
ReplyDeleteThis is not the America I've known all my life.
ReplyDeleteConsidering how computers are a standard feature in all "modern" vehicles, it might be possible to simply install a software patch that adds a kill switch. Depends on how the computer is wired to the engine, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteThere may be a reason why parts for a lot of older models are getting harder to find. And it may not be entirely economic.
And, no, I don't like it. I bring it up only to set realistic expectations.
Interesting thought, Jeff. If you can install a software patch that adds a kill switch, it would be possible to hack it and kill the kill switch, no?
