Stravinky's concerto, Dunbarton Oaks. This piece was commissioned by a Washington, D.C. couple to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary.
Somehow I got the false notion that this commemorated the big post WW2 conference at D Oaks, but it was written in 1937, so that's that. Before the internet, info about stuff like this was patchy - reading blurbs on record covers was my main source.
ReplyDeleteListening now, it reminded me of Aaron Copland, whose best music is unmistakably American.
