Last splash of color

The garden is pretty dull-looking, now that we're well into autumn; however, we can always count on our confederate rose plants to provide a last round of bright pink blooms.

The confederate rose is actually a member of the hibiscus family, and I have a couple that are seven or eight feet tall, and almost as wide (this is a smaller specimen from a cutting). Got to be on the watch for grasshoppers and caterpillars, though.

  1. "Confederate rose?"

How long before it's renamed? Not kidding... since the PC mind rot has taken hold and biologists are renaming various animal species because of icky badword yuckiness.

    1. It's also called a Dixie rose. Oops!

I'm glad I still have my old wildlife identification books. I saw that "they" were changing the names of certain birds (I presume they must have been named after people who owned slaves, or maybe the old names are now considered insulting to one of our increasing numbers of victim groups).

  2. Purty.
I'm jealous of your ability to grow stuff.
    I kill everything but weeds.
    I've lost cactii.
The only non-weed I haven't killed is bougainvillea. They flower 4 months after the last rain.

    1. We have bougainvillea, too, but we have quite a bit of trouble getting them to bloom.

    2. Too much water. They hate it.

    3. That's probably it. they're in pots and I don't water them very often, but they probably get too much just from the rain. Two are blooming right now (finally).
