Well, Jeff, that's why my parents wouldn't let us have a BB gun.
The difference being, my older brother actually had his eye shot out...with an arrow that my uncle shot into a rotten log. But, in an abundance of caution, they didn't want a repeat of that bad day. And I understood that, so I never asked for one.
This may surprise, and even disappoint, some readers, but I tried watching A Christmas Story a couple of times and never could get even half-way through it. As I recollect, I found the situations contrived and unbelievable, the humor mostly unfunny, and - this is on me, I suppose - after admiring Darren McGavin as the smart aleck reporter in the Nightstalker series, I simply couldn't buy into his role as a suburban doofus dad. To me, it was just a truck load of "Meh".
I almost had my eye shot out, but not by me. BB gun wars are fun, until you get your eye shot out. I was quite the general. Nobody ever expects a flank attack. Worked in paintball too.
