The great divorce

I'm not really too surprised by the acrimonious falling out between President Trump and Elon Musk: both men are sui generis, possessing unique personalities that seem to always bring them into conflict with other, more conventional mortals. In this case, there seems to be plenty of blame to go around: they both have gone overboard in their attacks on one another, and to throw away a partnership that has been so beneficial to the country strikes me as maddeningly idiotic.

There is some talk about a reconciliation, although I am not optimistic. Musk may well have permanently undermined any chance when he tried to tar Trump with the Epstein brush, and Trump has come dangerously close to giving the impression (whether intentional or not) that he is lacking in gratitude for all that Musk has done - not just with respect to the DOGE audits, but in helping Trump win the election. Taken all in all, these things constitute an awful big hatchet to bury.

Almost every day, I have cause to recollect Psalm 146:3 - "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help." No leader is infallible, no great man is unflawed. But mere mortals are all we have to work with, so God help us.

Update  The Babylon Bee reports: "Judge Determines Trump Will Get The Nation On Weekdays, While Musk Gets Every Other Weekend And Holidays".

  1. Someone, somewhere postulated that it's all a ruse by Trump & Musk to confuse the Dems, and distract from their propaganda that Musk is really running the country, not Trump.
I dunno, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I have no idea what's going on, but either way, it doesn't really concern me all that much. As long as DOGE continues to do what it was supposed to do,and Trump is still President, it'll be alright, I think.

Yes, I keep wondering if this isn't all kayfabe. And if in a month we'll see Musk having lunch at the WH beaming next to Trump.

Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to learn that this is true. I don't think it's the case, but it could be. Trump is a master troller.

    4. If the Dems are suddenly remembering where they buried the Epstein files, I'd call it kayfabe.

  3. So Musk is Schroedinger's Nazi, he's either a Nazi or not a Nazi.
We won't know until he opens the box where he makes up with Trump or doesn't.

  4. Musk did something similar in the Thailand cave rescue in 2018. Ended up having to pay for defaming the British guy who was successful. He even hired a private detective to get even, before being forced to apologise by the court.

  5. Oh, my mistake, Musk was exonerated by a Los Angeles jury. (Like OJ?) Not what I was previously told. His behaviour was childish though, in public and private hiring a PD vs an older more experienced man who ended up being right. Sound familiar?

    1. "Childish" is right. I'm glad Musk stepped in to help Trump in the latter's election bid, but I always felt that he would prove to be unreliable as a political ally in the long term (or, as it turns out, even in the short term).

    2. Note that he defamed the British cave diving expert by calling him a 'pedo' - which hurt because the guy lives in Thailand - probably for the cave diving. It's his automatic response to any older guy who 'disses' him. Then he sent us on a wild goose chase about Epstein, but it's really about Musk's loose cannon. Even his claims about growing up in S Africa are doubted by others who grew up there in his time. That's in his authorised biography!
