ReplyDeleteI honor all my family members who were military, but I’m kind of glad none of them, excluding my former Marine grandson, are alive to see what a mess this country is in.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing that he survived, awards for such exploits were usually posthumous, a very brave man.
ReplyDeleteI have an interest in the Pacific War and have read much about it. Peleliu was said to have been the bloodiest of the US battles but doesn't get mentioned as much as other battles.
The Japanese fought to the death, with only a about 100 surviving.
Australia's most famous battle cameraman, Damien Parer, died there after surviving most of the big battles in North Africa and the South Pacific. He left employment with the Australian government and got a job with Paramount to film the battles in the Central Pacific. He wanted to be where the action was and always got right in the middle of it.
