Mat "Guitar" Murphy performs "Murphy's Boogie", with an assist from Memphis Slim on piano. Watch those fingers fly!

Ya know, back in 1968, I learned a hard life lesson: you can never play a guitar that well just with a lot of practice.

It also (mainly) takes a lot of God given talent...which I lacked in spades.

I think you're right about the importance of God-given talent. Practice may make perfect, but it doesn't necessarily make awesome.

We all wanted to play like Jimi Hendrix back then. Even he had his bad days, and looked up to older bluesmen who were more consistent, wanting to get away from flashy tricks expected by fans and just play pure blues.
