"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Funny how Dizzy was eventually upstaged by Miles Davis who was nowhere near as talented.
ReplyDeleteMiles being extremely cunning in marketing strategies and a ruthless jerk, the way the masses idolise him and not people like Dizzy is sad.
Whatever accolades Davis deserves for his music - and I admit that I'm not a fan of hard bop and what strikes me as the narcissism of idiosyncratic noise that came afterwards - he was, in his private life, an inveterate scoundrel, consumed by professional jealousy and selfishness. I've often wondered what percentage of his fame is due to real talent, and what percentage to marketing.
