Venezuelans have now burned a statue of their formerly-venerated caudillo Hugo Chavez. Looks like the boiling point has been reached.

ReplyDeleteNeighbouring Trinidad, which also has oil, has a huge crime problem but no comparable economic problems. Plenty of small businesses doing well in Trinidad, including my wife's relatives, but even descendants of slaves have successful businesses there. Just a boat ride from Venezuela.
I've even heard that Colombia is doing pretty well now. So no excuses of geography or history. Venezuela was the first S American country to have skyscrapers I'm told.
