Some sobering thoughts for a Monday morning

Could the decline of legitimacy spell the end of America as we know it?

Of course, if the end is coming, what better way to go out than to flip the bird at some social justice moneybags?

In the Origins of Totalitarianism, the political philosopher Hannah Arendt reminds us that both Hitler and Stalin mobilized “masses not classes.” By that she meant that when societies implode in economic disaster, class-based identities crumble. The society becomes ripe for mass mobilization by an adventurer who will mold the masses with new identities. Whether Napoleon Bonaparte, Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler, or Peron, the script is remarkably the same.

Yup. Alas, we have far too many contenders in the leading role for that script;

Yes, yes it is.

At least Alabamians, regardless of their views of abortion and the recent almost-certainly-doomed law, cannot say of board members that, “We know what they are, and we know what their price is.”
