A warning from Australia

Is anybody really surprised that the government would abuse red flag laws?

Update: An important correction to my original post, courtesy of Veeshir (from the comments):
They're not abusing the laws, they're using them as intended. Gun laws are not intended for criminals, who, by definition, don't obey the law. They're to harass and criminalize the law abiding who think they're citizens not subjects.

Australia needs more rickety canoes and rough rivers. In America we've learned how to "lose" our firearms.

Our fine betters the world round have never forgiven America's Founding Fathers for meaning the rhetoric they used to justify the Revolution.
The Bill of Rights is a crime against humanity. Or at least our betters.

We watch the current regime in Melbourne in dismay. Blair Cottrell is describing that city's weird descent into UK style authoritarianism.

But we never had a revolution so our rights evolved out of give and take between troopers and settlers and aren't fixed like yours are. It's all very British colonial. If you fit the legal definition of a threat they can just seize you like a dog. Also 'anti-terror' laws gave them too much power. I watched a military armoured vehicle racing down the highway a few years back, to arrest a guy who had a stack of weapons in the next town, because of 'terrorism'.

One advantage we have is weak Feds, who mostly focus on the borders and the handful of Fed crimes like welfare fraud. Mostly our States are the authority, and each one is a bit different. Whites are fleeing Melbourne and Sydney, they call it a 'sea-change' or a 'tree-change'. Not sure why Cottrell stays there, and I'm not sure he's helping.
