Real heroism
The day POW Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds defied a German commandant's order to identify the Jewish soldiers in his charge.
He was posthumously recognized as “Righteous Among the Nations” in 2015 - than which, in my book, there is no higher honor.

The story linked at Instapundit of the fate of the Jewish POWs sent to Sgt Edmonds' camp's sister camp Stalag IX-B is sobering to say the least.
