And the voice of the turtle was heard in the land

Trump was acquitted in the impeachment show trial that ended today. GOP establishment boss, Mitch McConnell, voted to acquit, and then made a disgraceful speech in which he sought to complete the work started by Democrats several years ago by slandering Trump in a deranged rant. No doubt, Turtle Face was trying to show the base who's boss, just as he did when he openly declared war on the Tea Party movement. Like the idiotic Bourbons, McConnell has learned nothing and remembered everything. He remembers how it used to be, when a relative handful of senatorial cronies nominally representing two different parties ran everything along lines that suited their own needs, and he has failed to learn that those days are gone forever. By the way, I presume that Mitch McConnell returned the letter unopened. It is more relevant today than ever.

One of my own dumbass senators, Richard Burr - a man inexplicably plucked by the GOP from the ranks of the Tarheel State's lawnmower salesmen to enter politics many years ago - joined the gaudier Petainist Republicans in voting to convict. Burr, I think, is too intensely stupid to even know what a RINO is; he has simply taken the path of least resistance, allowing himself to be cajoled, bullied, intimidated and wheedled into doing the bidding of stronger-willed Democrats, rather in the manner of a slow child being tricked by the mean neighborhood kids into eating worms. He has announced that he will retire in 2022. That is a decision that I am confident would have been made by his constituents, in any event.

  1. Basically a big 'How dare you!' from Mitch. The hoi polloi failed, especially on the 6th, to show sufficient deference and forelock-tugging towards the 'democracy' which these sanctified personnages embody.

  3. I figure McConnell might be on his last political legs too. He's played both sides a few too many times.
