Lest we forget

In re: the amazing contortions of AG nominee Merrick Garland in explaining some of his risible legal views on violence, terrorism and immigration law, we should never forget that ersatz conservative Andrew McCarthy had this to say about Garland:

Sorry Judge Merrick Garland didn’t get day in the sun he deserves today, but he’s superb choice to be AG. He was as good as it gets as top DOJ official in 90s: smart, committed, patriotic, terrific lawyer, and gentleman. We’ll disagree on some policy, but DOJ in good hands.

That's a Twitter link up there (from January), so, for those who recoil from clicking on it (a completely understandable impulse, incidentally), I have quoted McCarthy's stamp of approval verbatim. Sadly, too many people who have put in long years with the federal government eventually develop a sort of Deep State malaria. The symptoms - unthinking support for one's old colleagues, the delusional notion that bureaucrats are typically above petty partisanship, the loss of the ability to weigh evidence (most unfortunate in a former government attorney) - may abate and go dormant for awhile, but they will almost always recur in a time of extraordinary stress. For example, when Orange Man Make Mean Tweets.

McCarthy is a useful idiot for the Left.

Say the name: Ashli Babbitt!
