That's not a bayonet...

 ...that's a bayonet (the 7:52 mark).

I think I would prefer a pike.

But then, the French have always gone for the glitzy stuff. I recall one NATO course I took whilst stationed in the then Federal Republic of Germany (which should date this story very nicely).

One session focused on mine field marking kits -- these were (and maybe still are) used to delineate cleared lanes through mine fields. We were shown examples of kits from most member nations of NATO, but the French were included because you just never know.

Anywho, nearly all of the NATO kits were simple and easily replenished (with the exception of flashlights that some kits had).

The French version, however, was all very fancy. Please remember, this was in the early 1980s, when items like flashing lights turned off/on by light sensors were known, but uncommon and very expensive. Their inclusion in equipment that was expected to be lost in combat by the French army was ... ... interesting. .

As opposed to the use of white cloth tape for most of the others.

I vaguely recollect seeing a news clip during the First Gulf War which showed a unit of French Foreign Legionnaires eating lunch outside of their tents off of an immaculate white tablecloth, drinking wine and dining on something that definitely wasn't MREs.
